The Dicklin Society

Over 30 years ago, two artistically brilliant forces aspired to create a non-profit organization that would provide quality performing arts training and high caliber performance opportunities in the Hampton Roads community. These two powerhouses, Hugh R. Copeland and Paul Dicklin, had this dream actualized by establishing The Hurrah Players in 1984. Unfortunately, Paul Dicklin’s untimely death in 1992 kept him from seeing the lasting success of his vision, his tireless effort, and his passionate commitment to the arts in our community.

Today

Today, under the continued direction of Hugh R. Copeland, The Hurrah Players are thriving as Virginia’s Leading Family Theatre Company. In honor of Paul’s indefatigable effort creating the solid foundation we continue to build upon, we have established The Dicklin Society. This elite Society is comprised of our key supporters, without whom we would not be the incomparable company we are today.

"Hurrah gave me a purpose and helped me discover my passion. I had such a sense of fulfillment at a young age because of The Hurrah Players and Hugh Copeland. It set the track for my career and life."

"Hugh was a mentor to me and was able to show me at a young age I was different and an instrument that could tell stories and move people and touch people's hearts."

"Through kindness, acceptance and love, Hurrah became a place most of us call home and people we call family. I can never replace the collection of incredible memories I have or the lessons I have learned. I believe anyone who joins will inevitably begin to feel this way and become part of our family."

- Victor Spence | Hurrah Player Alumnus & Board Member
