About the Hurrah Players TV & Film Academy Classes
Each year Hurrah offers over 1000 hours of performing arts education through classes, day camps and workshops. Enrollment in our educational programs is open to any person, age 5 and up, with a sincere desire to participate. With an annual average of 300 students, hailing from each city in Hampton Roads and beyond, we proudly represent a broad demographic. Through our Reach For The Stars Scholarship Program 35% of participants receive tuition assistance, as no child is denied access to our classes for financial reasons.

Pixel Perfect Photography 1
This introductory course covers the fundamentals of DSLR (Digital Single-Lens reflex) photography, including camera settings, composition, basic lighting, and basic editing techniques in Photoshop or Lightroom. Perfect for those new to photography, students will learn how to capture stunning images and develop their creative eye. Feel free to bring your own camera, or use one of ours!
Motion Magic: Animation 1
Dive into the exciting world of animation in this beginner-friendly course using Adobe After Effects! Designed for students with basic computer skills on a Mac, this class introduces the fundamentals of motion graphics, keyframing, and visual effects.
Through hands-on projects, students will learn how to create dynamic animations, work with text and shape layers, apply transitions, and explore essential effects to bring their ideas to life. Whether you’re interested in animated storytelling, motion design, or enhancing video projects, this course will provide the tools and techniques to get started.
By the end of the class, students will complete a short animated project, gaining confidence in navigating After Effects and developing a strong foundation in digital animation. No prior animation experience is required—just creativity and a willingness to learn!
Lights, Camera, Action! 2
Prerequisite: LCA! 1 class or if a student has technical camera skills and editing experience
A hands-on course where students collaborate in small groups to plan and shoot 2 short films, developing skills in cinematography, directing, and production management. Each student will then edit their own version of the project independently, refining their storytelling techniques and post-production abilities. The course emphasizes creative decision-making, technical proficiency, and teamwork while allowing for individual artistic expression in the editing process.
Lights, Camera, Action! 1
Here is your chance to dive into the exciting world of filmmaking! This class will allow students to write, film, light, edit and direct a short film in groups. Students will explore the technical aspects of operating a fixed lens-4K video camera, including white balance, exposure, and focus control. Through practical exercises and creative projects, you’ll gain hands-on experience and the foundational skills needed to create a short film. Prior to filming, students will learn composition, the rule of thirds, camera shots, angles, and movement. Students will also learn basic 3-point lighting techniques, natural lighting, and audio capture.
